Yesterday was The Day. The day when our little family decks the halls of our home. We NORMALLY begin the festivities by tromping around the nearest Christmas tree farm with saw in hand. But this year, we have a FAKE tree. Yes, you read right. But..it was a free and very pretty fake tree from Hero's mom. Free is good....even if it's fake free. Or free fake.
On Christmas Tree Decorating Day each year, we have our first chili of the season, dubbed "Christmas Tree Chili." The Appledoodle helped me make it yesterday morning to make sure I wasn't really putting Christmas tree needles in Christmas Tree Chili.
The day started out wonderfully with a surprise visit from my Happy Home friend and her 2 yr old and new baby. Nothing is more wonderful than cuddling a new baby first thing in the morning. Then, the chili. Then the assembly line from the attic to the kitchen where we passed 427 boxes. Then the unpacking of the boxes which no one is allowed to do but The Mama. I unpack the boxes...mainly bc I love to hear the squeals and the aaahs and oohs from the kids as they see the next decoration for the first time in a year. It doesn't seem like we did it just "last week" to them like it does me.
We made a quick visit to my neighbor's to preview by invitation only ;) their yard sale/flea market items. I got some great new-in-package stocking stuffers for next to nothing. They ended up coming home with me and sharing a bowl of chili for dinner. Sometimes impromptu throws me for a loop and sometimes it's a blast. Last night, a blast.
The tree did get decorated somewhere in all that, and we ended the evening eating Dump Cake and ice cream with JellyBean and twinkling Christmas lights aglow. We watched a great new holiday dvd together...Noelle. Some homeschoolers starred in and produced the movie. (Note: The movie is PG and part of the storyline deals with pregnancy outside of marriage. This fact went over the head of our two littles. The storyline, though, was one of redemption and forgiveness...don't miss it. )
We had a great trip to NC last week for Thanksgiving. But it was more Christmas than Thanksgiving...since that's our only visit this season. I was even coerced into shopping Black Friday sales, which included a 48 minute wait in a Kohl's line. But it was worth it...the deals! The deals! More importantly, we spend some wonderful time with Hero's family and so enjoyed that. Once a year just doesn't seem like enough, even if it is a 9 hour drive.

OH YAY! I enjoyed this post so much. I also shopped at Kohl's on black Friday. It's a tradition for us. Your home is lovely. I am a kitchen and dining room type of woman so I really enjoy photos of the table set. Your tree is big and beautiful. It sounds like everything is festive and wonderful your way. Merry almost Christmas!
Sounds like a fun day. Especially your visit from us!
